Das Leben ist kein Ponyhof.
I overheard this German idiom last weekend, which translates to “life is not a pony farm.”
“Why a pony farm?” I asked my German friend. He said he wasn’t sure, but I’m just going to assume pony farms represent the pinnacle of Deutsch easy living. I said then you’d think we’d hear about more get-ponyfarm-quick schemes; ambitious people retiring to pony farms early or enterprising young Germans doing pony farm startups. To that he said only, “‘Morgen, morgen, nur nicht heute,’ sagen alle faulen Leute.” Tomorrow, tomorrow, just not today;’ that’s what all the lazy people say.’
